What do South African salons need from software?
South African salons need WhatsApp confirmations and reminders, online booking, a POS that records card, EFT and cash payments, VAT on invoices, and a price that makes sense in rand. Because none of these tools work offline, plan for mobile data during load-shedding.

Blyssbook for South African salons
Blyssbook suits salons whose clients book on WhatsApp. Every plan includes a booking page, calendar, client records and a POS. WhatsApp confirmations, 24-hour and 2-hour reminders and the AI WhatsApp assistant start on Professional ($21, about R350). There is no commission on bookings.
- Starter, $11 (about R180): up to 5 staff and 200 bookings a month; WhatsApp reminders start on Professional.
- Professional, $21 (about R350): WhatsApp reminders, the AI WhatsApp assistant, deposits and staff commissions, up to 15 staff.
- Enterprise, $49 (about R810): up to 10 branches and the AI voice receptionist.
- Limits: no gift cards, no offline mode. Online card deposits need your own Stripe account, and Stripe lists South Africa only as an extended network through Paystack (stripe.com/global, checked 12 October 2026), so plan on recording card, EFT and cash payments at the POS.
Booksy: the marketplace option
Booksy South Africa lists R399 a month plus R89 per extra staff member, so a 3-person salon pays R577 a month before tax. Boost is optional: Booksy charges a one-time 40% fee on a Boost client's first visit, up to R1,500, and says it charges no commission when Boost is off. It suits salons that want new clients from Booksy's app.
Simple Salon: one local price
Simple Salon's South African site lists one price, R499 a month, with online bookings, client management, invoices and a salon website, plus a 30-day demo. The page doesn't mention WhatsApp or SMS, so ask how reminders are sent before you switch.
Fresha: check the rand price on its site
Fresha is no longer free. Its pricing page lists a monthly subscription, a one-time fee on brand-new clients who find you through the Fresha marketplace, and 20 free messages per member before pay-as-you-go charges. The page localises prices by visitor location and didn't show rand to us, so check it from South Africa.
WhatsApp booking: why it matters in South Africa
Many South African clients message their salon on WhatsApp rather than calling or using an app. Software that turns those chats into booked, reminded appointments saves time at the front desk and cuts no-shows.
On Blyssbook Professional, the AI WhatsApp assistant reads the client's message, checks free times and books the slot, and the reminder goes out the day before. Any conversation can be handed to a person from the inbox.
