What is the best spa membership software?
The one that matches how you collect money. Blyssbook is built for salons and spas that take payment in the salon: you create a plan, enrol a client, and collect each payment at the till or by transfer. A single subscription that runs on its own needs card-on-file billing, which Blyssbook doesn't have; Mindbody advertises that[1]. Everything else below is what you get on Professional.
How do you create a membership in Blyssbook?
- Go to Salon Setup → Services & Prices → Memberships and press New Plan.
- Enter the plan name (for example Nail Club Monthly), the price, and the billing cycle: Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly.
- Set the Service Discount (%) for members, 0 to 100. Add any extra perks as short lines, such as "Free monthly blowout".
- To sign someone up, open Sales → Members, press Enroll a member, pick the client and the plan, say how they paid (cash, card, bank transfer or online) and, if you have several branches, which branch took the sale. An invoice is issued and the next payment date is set one cycle ahead.
Only the discount is applied for you. At the POS a paid-up member shows a line such as "Nail Club Monthly, 10% off" that staff can apply to the bill. The perk lines are notes for your team: Blyssbook doesn't count or redeem them, so a free blowout has to be given by hand.
How do members pay each month?

They pay in person, and you record it. When a member's next payment date passes, the row changes to Payment due and their member discount stops applying at the till. Press Collect payment, choose cash, card, bank transfer or online, and Blyssbook issues an invoice and moves the date forward. A member who pays early keeps their cycle; one who pays late restarts from the day they paid. A paused member isn't flagged as due; if the date has passed by the time you resume them, a fresh cycle starts from that day.
There is no failed-payment handling because there is no automatic charge. If you want a member to pay by card every month without anyone pressing a button, Blyssbook is not the right tool today.
How do prepaid packages work: sell, track, redeem?
A package is a bundle of sessions sold up front, usually at a small saving. The client pays once, and each visit uses one session until none are left or the package expires.
- Go to Salon Setup → Services & Prices → Packages and press New Package. Add one or more services with a session count for each, the price, and how many days it stays valid (180 by default). Blyssbook shows how much the client saves against list price.
- Press Sell on the package, choose the client and how they paid. A paid invoice is issued and the validity period starts.
- At checkout in the POS, each matching service shows Redeem from Gel Mani x4 Pack (4 left). Tap it and that line costs nothing.

Packages Sold lists each client's remaining sessions, purchase date, expiry and price paid. Refunding the sale cancels the package, and voiding a checkout that used a session gives it back. A package belongs to the client, not to a branch, so a session bought at one site can be used at another. See multi-location.
How does the loyalty programme work?
Loyalty is a separate tool that works alongside memberships and packages. Under Salon Setup → Loyalty Program you choose how many points a client earns per amount spent, a bonus per visit, what a point is worth, the minimum to redeem, and whether points expire after a period of inactivity. You can also add a birthday bonus and a referral reward. Tiers start from an editable Bronze, Silver, Gold and VIP set (0, 5, 10 and 15% discount, at 0, 500, 1,500 and 4,000 points), and each tier can give a discount at checkout.
At the POS staff can apply a tier or member discount and use points on the bill, and sales earn points automatically. The loyalty page shows total points outstanding and their liability value in your currency. Memberships and loyalty are separate: a client can have both.
What reminders help sell renewals and use-it-or-lose-it sessions?
Blyssbook has 12 WhatsApp automations on Professional and above: confirmation, changed and cancelled messages, reminders 24 hours and 2 hours before, a thank-you, a review request, missed-appointment follow-up, a birthday treat, a welcome message and "We miss you" messages at 30 and 60 days. They send from your own WhatsApp Business number, so it needs to be connected first. Starter doesn't send automated WhatsApp reminders.
None of the 12 is about a package running out or a membership payment being due. The 30- and 60-day messages catch clients who stop coming, which includes people holding unused sessions. For a nudge about a specific expiry date, check Packages Sold or the Payment due flag on Members and message the client from the inbox. More on the WhatsApp booking and reminders page.
Is a membership worth it? A worked example
- Without the membership: the client visits once a month. Revenue is $80.
- With it: the client visits twice a month at $72 each (10% off) and pays the $50 fee. Revenue is $194, of which $16 is discount you gave away.
- The catch: the plan only wins if the client really visits more. If they still come once, you earn $122 and gave away $8. Check your own numbers before you set the price.
For a package, say five massages listed at $90 each ($450) sold for $400. The client saves 11.1%, and you hold $400 of cash for sessions not yet delivered. Blyssbook shows the sessions left per client, but doesn't total that into a money figure.
Which reports cover members, packages and unused sessions?
Sales → Members lists active and paused members with status and next payment. Sales → Packages Sold lists sessions left, expiry and price paid, and can show expired, used-up and cancelled packages. Every sale is also on an invoice, so membership and package revenue shows in Sales → Invoices and the analytics. There is no churn report, no report of unused-session liability in money, and no member-only revenue dashboard.
How do Blyssbook memberships compare with Zenoti, Vagaro, Mindbody and Phorest?
Taken from each vendor's own pricing page on 16 October 2026.
| Software | Memberships and packages, as listed |
|---|---|
| Blyssbook | Memberships, packages and loyalty on Professional ($21) and up; fees collected at the till, no autopay |
| Mindbody[1] | Its FAQ lists automatic membership renewals and says memberships bill automatically each cycle through Mindbody Payments, with cards saved on file |
| Zenoti[2] | "Memberships & Packages" listed under Transactions; no prices, quote only |
| Vagaro[3] | "Memberships, packages, & gift certificates" included with every plan |
| Phorest[4] | Memberships in Elite or as an add-on, weekly, monthly or annual; "Courses & Series Online" from Grow; digital loyalty card from Grow |
| Boulevard[5] | Lists Memberships under features, but the pricing page gives no plan detail, so we don't compare it |
Where they are stronger
- Automatic billing. Mindbody bills memberships each cycle on its own[1]. Blyssbook needs a person to press Collect payment.
- Gift cards. Vagaro includes gift certificates[3]. Blyssbook has none.
- Selling online. Phorest lists selling courses and series online[4]. In Blyssbook, memberships and packages are sold by staff in the dashboard, not on the booking page.
- Weekly billing. Phorest lists weekly memberships[4]; Blyssbook cycles are monthly, quarterly and yearly.
What do memberships and packages not do in Blyssbook?
- No automatic card charging for memberships, and so no failed-payment retries.
- No gift cards or gift vouchers.
- No online purchase of a membership or package by the client.
- Perks other than the percentage discount are notes, not tracked benefits.
- No automatic message for package expiry or a due membership payment.
- No transfer of a package to another client.
- Starter ($11) doesn't include memberships, packages or loyalty.
Memberships and packages questions
What's the best spa membership software?
It depends on one question: do members need to be charged automatically? If yes, pick software with card-on-file autopay, such as Mindbody. If you are happy to take the monthly fee at the till or by bank transfer, Blyssbook's memberships (from $21 a month) are simpler and cheaper: a plan with a price, billing cycle and service discount, a Members list and a Collect payment button.
What are the best spa tools with automated reminders and packages?
On Blyssbook's Professional plan you get prepaid packages with session tracking plus 12 WhatsApp automations, including reminders 24 hours and 2 hours before each appointment. There are no automatic messages about package expiry or a membership payment being due, so those you send yourself from the inbox.
How do salon memberships get billed each month?
In Blyssbook they don't bill themselves. When the next payment date passes, the member shows as Payment due and their discount stops. Staff press Collect payment, choose how the client paid, and an invoice is issued and the next date moves forward. Nothing charges a saved card.
Can clients use a package across different services?
A package can include several services, each with its own number of sessions, such as 3 facials and 2 massages. A session can only be used on the service it was sold for. Any branch can redeem it.
What's the difference between a membership and a package?
A membership is a recurring plan: the client pays a fee each cycle and gets a service discount and any perks you list. A package is a one-off prepaid bundle of sessions that expires, 180 days by default, or when the sessions run out.
Do you support gift cards?
No. Blyssbook doesn't have gift cards or gift vouchers yet. Prepaid packages are the closest option, but they are tied to named services and to one client.
